Former Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanand was on Thursday acquitted by a district court here in a 2011 rape case filed against him by a disciple, his lawyer said.

The MP-MLA court in Lucknow on Thursday will hear the case of alleged perjury against the woman law student who had accused former Union Minister Chinmayanand of sexual assault.

Supreme Court judge, Justice R Banumathi, on Monday recused herself from hearing two petitions including one seeking transfer of the rape case filed against former union minister and BJP leader Chinmayanand from Uttar Pradesh to a Delhi court.

The Supreme Court today agreed to hear on March 2 the plea of complainant law student that the rape case against former union minister Chinmayanand be transferred to a Delhi court from Uttar Pradesh.

A special investigation team of Uttar Pradesh Police has filed chargesheets against jailed former Union Minister Chinmayanand in a rape case against a 23-year-old law student and also a separate case of extortion in which the student and her associates are under arrest for allegedly blackmailing the BJP leader.

Chinmayanand Rape Case: A magisterial court prosecuting a woman law student and her three male friends for allegedly trying to extort money from Chinmayanand, a BJP leader accused of sexually exploiting the woman, on Monday adjourned the hearing of the case to October 26.

A local court in Shahjahanpur on Thursday extended the judicial custody of former Union minister Chinmayanand till October 16. A law student has levelled rape charges against the BJP leader.

Congress leaders were today refused permission to take out a march in support of the jailed law student who has accused the BJP's Chinmayanand of rape.The Congress leaders wanted to march from the town of Shahjahanpur to Lucknow, 180 km away,in solidarity with the student.

Hours after the arrest of BJP leader Chinmayanand on Friday, the woman who has accused him of rape said the police are trying to weaken the case against him. "This has played out exactly as I feared... there is no justice," she told reporters, referring to the charge under which the former union minister has been arrested.
