Teen molestor cop Rathore will get pension for now, says court

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has restored the pension of former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, the man convicted for molesting Ruchika Girhotra. The court, however said this restoration would be be provisional and subject to the outcome of the appeal filed by Mr Rathore against his conviction in the Supreme Court.

In a development that has evoked shock and anger, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has restored the pension of former Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana, SPS Rathore, who was convicted last year for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra in 1990.

Nineteen years after he molested a teenager, a former police officer, one of the most senior in Haryana, is finally being treated like a criminal. The Home Ministry is using a showcause notice to Rathore, asking why he should not be stripped of his pension, as also a police medal that was given to him in 1985.
