The Dakshina Kannada district administration has issued a 'red alert' for Tuesday with the Met department predicting heavy rainfall.

Heavy Rain Alert: After wreaking havoc in several North Indian states, incessant rain has now also moved to the southern states and authorities have urged locals to stay indoors and take precautions.

Heavy rainfall in Kerala for the last few days has displaced hundreds and triggered a flood alert for several areas. Two rivers are also flowing over the danger mark and authorities have issued a warning against going to beaches or hilly terrain.

At least 130 villages in Maharashtra have been affected - communication has been lost with 128 of them - due to heavy rain, reports said. Apart from Maharashtra, a red alert has also been issued in the southern states of Karnataka and Telangana.

Karnataka Weather: All schools and colleges have been shut in coastal Karnataka after the Indian Meteorological Department predicted extremely heavy rain for coastal districts. At least three people have died in rain-related incidents so far.

Extremely heavy rain has been predicted in several districts of Karnataka, with many already seeing flooding and a red alert has been issued for Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada, as well as Chikmagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu.

Mumbai weather: The Mumbai weather office has warned of heavy rain in south Konkan region today. Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Satara and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra and neighbouring Goa are likely to get heavy showers and thunderstorms today and tomorrrow.
