Some 25 lakh military pensioners will benefit under the revised One Rank One Pension, or OROP, programme which the government approved today.

The Centre on Friday told the Supreme Court that it has taken a "policy decision" on implementation of One Rank-One Pension (OROP) for ex-servicemen and sought dismissal of pleas seeking automatic annual revision of pension, instead of current policy of periodic review once in five years.

Supreme Court today sought the government's response on a plea of an ex-servicemen's body seeking implementation of One Rank-One Pension (OROP) as recommended by the Koshyari Committee with an automatic annual revision, instead of the current policy of periodic review once in five years.

The government is considering appointing a committee under a judge to go into the issue of equalisation of pension, a leader of the ex-servicemen group fighting for One Rank One Pension said after a meeting with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

The agitating ex-servicemen and the government appeared to have ironed out some major differences over the contentious issue of One Rank One Pension with the defence veterans saying on Wednesday night that they may accept revision of pension once in two years instead of one year as demanded by them.
