Officials halted the deportation of a 16-year-old Rohingya Muslim girl to Myanmar at the last minute today, saying they had not been able to contact officials caught up in the coup over the border.

A day after a Rohingya Muslim migrant from Myanmar's Rakhine state was sent back, five others lodged at an Assam prison were deported to the neighbouring country on Thursday. According to sources, they were handed over to Myanmarese authorities at the border check point in Manipur's Moreh town.

A United Nations legal expert has voiced concern over government's plan to deport on Wednesday seven Rohingyas to Myanmar where the army is accused of ethnic cleansing of the Muslim minority.
