The Sanjay Gupta-directed film, which also stars Irrfan Khan, revolves around a lawyer whose daughter has been kidnapped. She must defend a criminal on trial successfully in exchange for her daughter. Irrfan plays a suspended cop who helps her in her endeavour.

Rudhramadevi is scheduled to release on October 9 in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other states. The film has reportedly been made on a budget of Rs80 crore and was first shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil and later dubbed into Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam

"The Tamil version will release on October 16. The film's Tamil producers Thenandal Films released Vijay-starrer Puli last week and hence have pushed the release of Rudhramadevi by a week as they feel both the films will eat into their box office returns," a source from the film's unit told IANS

"We had to rely a lot on VFX (visual effects). Gunasekhar and art director Thota Tharani spent months in Warangal, studying the remains of the Kakatiya dynasty.This is Gunasekhar's story. So I chose to see it from his point of view. I trusted his vision and blindly followed his lead," said Anushka

"Contrary to the misconception that women are soft and weak, Anushka has proved everybody wrong with her performance in the film. She fought like a warrior and was so good in the action sequences that one can't believe if there's a woman involved," said Vikramjeet

Rudhramadevi is based on a third century queen of the Kakatiya dynasty with Anushka Shetty playing the protagonist. The Gunasekhar-directed film, produced by Abhishek Nama, will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam

Actor Allu Arjun, who is currently riding high on the success of Race Gurram, has been roped in to play a cameo in upcoming Telugu period-drama Rudhramadevi about queen Rani Rudhramadevi of Kakatiya dynasty.

Actress Anushka Shetty is unlikely to sign any new film in the near future as she is extremely busy shooting for the Telugu period-drama Rudhramadevi and Tamil-Telugu bilingual Baahubali, said a source close to her.

Anushka Shetty, who is busy shooting for upcoming Telugu period-drama Rudhramadevi, is expected to shed as much as 15 kg for her role in the film.
