Salary Revision Bill

A bill to amend the 2005 law on Right to Information has been listed for passing for the monsoon session of parliament. While government sources earlier indicated that the bill is only meant to revise salaries of RTI officers, opposition parties and activists expressed concerns that it could weaken the landmark transparency law.

Parliamentarians have reason to cheer -- their basic pay is set to be doubled to Rs 1 lakh from April 1 this year.In the finance bill tabled on Thursday the government proposed that the basic pay of MPs be increased from the current Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.

Haryana Assembly Speaker Kanwar Pal on Tuesday deferred the bill to revise the salary of law makers and it will be taken up today in the House.
