The Election Commission (EC) today censured Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid over his remark promising an increase in the minority sub-quota if the Congress was voted to power in Uttar Pradesh, The EC dubbed Mr Khurshid's remark as a violation of the model code of conduct.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid will appear before Election Commission on January 20 to explain his stand on the alleged poll code violation. A notice was sent to Mr Khurshid bt the Election Commission after a complaint was filed against him. Mr Khurshid in an election rally speech allegedly spoke of nine percent quota for Muslims.
