Santoor Maestro Bhajan Sopori died at the age of 73 today at a Gurugram hospital following prolonged illness, members of his family said. He received the Padma Shri in 2004, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1992.

Eminent theatre personality from Karnataka, S Raghunandana on Thursday declined to accept the Sangeet Natak Akademi award in protest against incidents of "mob lynching and violence in the name of God and religion" and attempts to throttle voices of activists.

Noted flautist (flute player) Rajendra Prasanna, Kathak dancer Shobha Koser, folk singer Anwar Khan Manganiyar, and Odissi dancer Sujata Mohapatra among others were conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards by President Ram Nath Kovind today.

Pandit Shankar Ghosh was honoured with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000. He followed the Farukhabad gharana of Hindustani classical music and has also taught table to a large number of students in Kolkata as well as Europe

Veteran MS Sathyu, Hindustani classical singer Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Kathak dancer Uma Dogra and playwright Asgar Wajahat were among the luminaries conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi awards and fellowships for 2014 by President Pranab Mukherjee today.
