Haryana 'Sant' Rampal Acquitted Of Illegally Confining 1000s Of Devotees

A self-declared religious leader in Haryana, Satguru Rampalji Maharaj, has been found not guilty of illegally confining thousands of followers and obstructing officials in 2014 when they stormed his 12-acre ashram. Six people were killed as his devotees turned into a private army to prevent his arrest; hundreds were injured.

Rampal Maharaj, the 63-year-old guru who was arrested from his fortified ashram in Haryana last night, will be kept at the Hisar Central Jail till November 28, when a contempt case against him will be heard again. His ashram has been sealed and handed over to the CRPF.
