Saradha Chit Fund Scandal

West Bengal Transport and Sports Minister Madan Mitra, an accused in the multi-billion rupee Saradha chit fund scandal, will be kept in under house arrest till a CBI plea for cancellation of his bail was decided, the Calcutta High Court said on Thursday.

A Bengal minister was today questioned in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam but another missed his date with the CBI saying he was in hospital. This is the first time ministers have been questioned in the scandal that has greatly embarrassed the government of Mamata Banerjee.

Sudipta Sen, the chairman of Saradha Group, which allegedly defrauded thousands of small investors, and two others, were on Tuesday sent to judicial custody till June 3 in cases related to cheating by a court at Baruipur in South 24 Parganas district.
