Modifying its order, the Supreme Court today said real estate barons Ansal brothers will face two-year rigorous jail term in the Uphaar fire case, which claimed 59 lives, if they fail to pay Rs 30 crore each within three months.

Famous builders Gopal and Sushil Ansal will not be jailed for the massive fire in which 59 people were killed at the cinema they owned in Delhi, the Supreme Court said, fining them Rs 60 crore instead.

Supreme Court Judge B N Agrawal on Friday rescued himself from hearing the bail plea of real estate tycoons Sushil and Gopal Ansal in the Uphaar fire case after counsel Ram Jethmalani expressed reservations about the matter being placed before a Bench that included him.
