National Award-winning singer Alka Yagnik is battling with sensorineural deafness, a condition in which a person may struggle to hear faint sounds, understand speech clearly or differentiate between different sounds.

With increasing age, quite a few people experience a decline in their ability to hear. Continued exposure to loud sounds, intake of some medicines or physical injury to the region around the ear can also cause hearing problems.
