Seroprevalence

The Kerala government is conducting a seroprevalence study to take stock of the spread of the coronavirus among the people of the state.

The Centre has advised all states and Union territories to conduct seroprevalence surveys in consultation with the ICMR to generate district-level data on seroprevalence which is essential in formulating localised public health response measures.

Nearly seven per cent of India's population aged ten and above was exposed to SARS-CoV-2, amounting to an estimated 74.3 million infections by August, with the seroprevalence being highest in urban slum areas followed by urban non-slum and rural areas, the findings of ICMR's second national serosurvey stated.

Only 23.7 per cent of Assam's population - or one out of every five persons - has been exposed to coronavirus till mid-August. This is far less than what is required for the population to develop herd immunity, the first ever seroprevalence survey conducted state has shown.
