Serum Institute Losses

The Serum Institute of India (SII) said it has suffered losses of over Rs 1,000 crore due to the massive fire that broke out a day before at its premises in Pune, while Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that whether the blaze was an accident or sabotage will be known once the probe gets over.

Serum Institute of India chief Adar Poonawala on Thursday said that no one had been seriously hurt in the fire at its vaccine-making facility in Pune which is at the heart of India's fight against the coronavirus.

The government today said it had found no reason to stop the Oxford vaccine trials in India after reviewing a Chennai volunteer's allegation of serious adverse effects, including memory loss and change in behavior.

The Oxford coronavirus vaccine is "safe and immunogenic", the Serum Institute of India has asserted today, battling a massive controversy over a trial volunteer in Chennai alleging adverse effects including "virtual neurological breakdown, memory loss and behavioral changes".
