Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut asserted on Friday that his party would contest in 23 of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra next year and said their talks with the Congress on seat-sharing has to start from zero.

Soon after Uddhav Thackeray was named Chief Minister of a Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-Congress government in Maharashtra on Tuesday night, a leader of his party announced his resignation on Twitter. Ramesh Solanki tweeted that he was "making the most difficult decision" of his life "with a heavy heart."

The Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress staked claim to power in Maharashtra on Monday after submitting signatures of support from 162 MLAs to the Governor. The NCP, whose Ajit Pawar claims the party is with the BJP, submitted the signatures of 51 of its 54 MLAs.
