4 Soldiers, 2 Porters Dead After Avalanche Hits Army Patrol In Siachen

Four soldiers died after being trapped in snow for hours after an avalanche hit Army positions in northern Siachen Glacier on Monday. Two porters also died in the accident. The soldiers were a part of a patrolling group of eight; they died due to extreme hypothermia, defence officials said.

The Indian Army has successfully recovered a helicopter which was stuck in snow at an altitude of 18,000 feet at Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir, creating a world record of sorts. The helicopter was brought to the Siachen base camp with the help of infantry troops deployed there.
