Siruvani Dam Issue

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to instruct Central authorities to act on the Siruvani dam issue and withdraw nod for an Environmental Impact Assessment or EIA study by bringing to his notice, a unanimous resolution adopted by the State Assembly over it.

The twin issues of a dam proposed by Kerala across Siruvani river and getting Cauvery water from Karnataka today found its echo in the Tamil Nadu Assembly today with DMK staging a walkout after demanding an all party panel and a House resolution over it as ruling AIADMK targeted the main Opposition party for "politicising" the issue.

MDMK MP Ganeshamurthy and CPI MLA M Arumugam were arrested today along with 1000 workers of different parties when they tried to cross to Kerala to stage a demonstration to protest that Government's move to build a dam across Bhavani River in Chittoor.
