Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot landed in Delhi this morning and set out for Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur by road straight from the airport, sources close to him said.

Businessman Robert Vadra on Wednesday said he had been stopped from going to Lucknow to "check on my wife (Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been detained in UP's Sitapur) and make sure she is fine and well".

With the Congress questioning the detention of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, officials said Tuesday a case has been registered in Sitapur against her and 10 others under sections related to preventive detention due to apprehension of breach of peace.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was arrested last night on her way to the violence-hit Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh and is being detained at Sitapur, about 90 km from Lucknow.

Six days after a police officer and a civilian were killed in mob violence over cow carcasses in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, the top officer in the district has been transferred. Senior Superintendent of Police Krishna Bahadur Singh has been moved to Lucknow and he has been replaced by the Superintendent of Police of Sitapur, Prabhakar Chaudhary.

In another instance of hooliganism in Uttar Pradesh, the house of a dalit family was allegedly torched by Samajwadi Party (SP) workers in Sitapur district on Wednesday night. The victims allege that some policemen and SP workers were involved in the incident.

In Uttar Pradesh, there is another incident of Samajwadi Party workers indulging in violence. Two groups of rival candidates clashed in Babna village of Sitapur district last night and huts of the supporters of an independent candidate were set on fire by SP supporters.
