Congress president Sonia Gandhi today said Swami Vivekananda's slogan of oneness in his historic Chicago speech was as relevant today as it was in 1893 and should be the charter for the way forward in what she described as today's atmosphere of intolerance and hate.

Invoking the legacy of Swami Vivekananda, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today asked the people to battle religious fanaticism and asserted that true religion cannot be the basis of hatred and division, in comments seen as a veiled attack on the BJP and Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda in New Delhi on Sunday.
