The police on Saturday registered an offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against a doctor for allegedly giving a wrong sonography report of a pregnant woman leading to her death in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said.

The Delhi High Court has asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to constitute a board of at least three doctors to examine the woman seeking termination of pregnancy, claiming her sonography revealed certain fetal abnormalities.

The Union Heath Ministry informed Lok Sabha about 294 cases that have been filed against illegal sonography clinics. Supreme Court has ordered all the states to take strict action against pre-natal sex determination.
