"We have almost completed the first session of dialysis. It went well," said the doctor treating the actor at Belle Vue Clinic

Sharing the "good news", the doctor said that they have been able to identify the bacteria causing fresh patches in the actor's lungs

"His consciousness, despite all our efforts, is not improving. Rather it has gone down," Dr Arindam Kar, who is leading the medical team treating Mr Chatterjee, said Sunday evening

"His consciousness is a little down compared to the last 72 hours. Not very sure which way it is heading to," said the doctor

"We are reasonably sure he will recover from this deadly disease and in the coming four to five days," the doctor said

"Soumitra Chatterjee's organs are functioning normally and all other parameters are fine," said the doctor

"He is obeying commands, he is responsive, understanding some few words," said a senior doctor treating the actor

Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee is currently in intensive care due to complications linked to Covid-19. The octogenarian was admitted to the Belle Vue hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday, after testing positive a day before. His daughter said Mr Chatterjee is suffering from Covid encephalopathy and is disoriented and restless.

Soumitra Chatterjee "did not experience any rise in his body temperature," an official from the hospital said

The decision to admit Soumitra Chatterjee to hospital was taken after he received the positive result this morning
