Speed Up Case Disposal

The fully digital Lok Adalat promises efficiency, convenience, and transparency, helping alleviate the load of thousands of pending cases which might never reach a court.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today announced setting up of 32 new courts, including ten fast track courts across the state at a total cost of Rs 14.89 crore, to aid further speedy disposal of cases.

Seeking to speed up disposal of cases, government is weighing the option of introducing the system of 'pre-trial hearings' on the lines of the UK and the US under which the main dispute is identified before the beginning of the trial helping the courts decide the matter fast.

With an estimated Rs 4 lakh crore of tax revenue locked up in litigation, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has created over 240 new posts of Commissioners (Appeals) to speed up legal disposal system in the Income Tax Department.

The Chief Justice designate Justice P Sathasivam today said his priority in his short tenure of less than 10 months would be disposing of cases related to women and children, long pending cases, inter-state water disputes and speeding up the justice delivery system.
