In a major victory for the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, the party's little known S Valarmathi today won the by-polls to the Srirangam assembly constituency, represented previously by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who was disqualified following her conviction in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case in September last year.

DMK today announced its candidate for the February 13 bypoll for the Srirangam seat, vacated by AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa following her conviction in a graft case.

Chief Election Commisisoner VS Sampath has said the schedule for the bypoll will be announced after the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.
