The chairman of business conglomerate SRM Group and chief of the Tamil Nadu's Indiya Jananayaka Katchi (IJK) party, TR Pachamuthu, has been sent to judicial custody till September 9 after being arrested on Friday in a cheating case.

Income Tax raids over 25 premises belonging to the SRM group in Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Sonepat and Bangalore.

Income tax authorities today conducted searches at educational institutions run by the Chennai-based SRM Group. Sources say officials are raiding 45 places in Tamil Nadu and outside the state to check if the institution has indulged in tax evasion.

Sleuths of the Income Tax Department today searched more than 25 premises in the city belonging to the SRM group, sources said.
