Sukhoi-30 Fighter Fleet

Amid the ongoing military deployment along the China front, Air Force's only female Weapon System Operator in the Sukhoi-30 fighter fleet on Tuesday said pilots in the eastern sector were ready to respond to any eventuality in the area.

Defence Ministry sources today denied there was a deadline for it to issue a Request For Information (RFI) from aerospace companies on a fresh tender for combat aircraft meant to supplement the Indian Air Force's fleet of Sukhoi-30s, Rafales (on order) and Tejas fighters.

India's frontline combat aircraft Sukhoi-30 fleet, which was grounded after a crash near Pune, will be back in air "within a week's time", said Air Force Chief Arup Raha today.

India has grounded its entire Sukhoi-30 fleet and each aircraft is undergoing a thorough technical check following a recent crash near Pune - both pilots had ejected safely and were not injured.

A week after a Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter plane crashed, which lead to the entire fleet being grounded, Indian Air Force (IAF) chief NAK Browne took an hour-long sortie in the aircraft in Pune today, in an exercise aimed at restoring the confidence of pilots.
