The BJP has a new MLA in Haryana's Dadri - Sunil Sangwan, the ex-Haryana prison official who granted parole - six times - to Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

The Congress and the BJP both face hiccups in finalising candidates for next month's Haryana election, sources told NDTV Friday, days after the former began seat-sharing talks with the AAP, seeking a revival of the INDIA opposition alliance.

The BJP has named former prison official Sunil Sangwan - who granted Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Ram Rahim parole six times - on its list of candidates for next month's Haryana Assembly election.

Three MLAs from Haryana - among them Jannayak Janata Party leader Devender Singh Babli - have joined the BJP, as the ruling party is out to bolster its ranks ahead of the upcoming state elections.

According to police, Mr Sangwan was scheduled to board the train to go to his place of posting at Air Force Station in Santacruz, Mumbai. He got late and allegedly made the call to delay the departure of the train from Delhi.
