The Supreme Court on Monday reduced the VIP quota for Haj pilgrimage from 2,500 to just 240. Judges Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai said under the reduced quota, the Indian president can recommend 70 pilgrims, the vice-president 60, the prime minister 60 and the minister for external affairs 50 pilgrims.

Kerala to formulate stand on Haj subsidy

The Kerala Government would convene a meeting of Muslim religious organisations in the state to elicit their views on the recent Supreme Court direction to the Centre to phase out Haj subsidy, according to Industries Minister PK Kunhalikutty.
