Supreme Court On Maradu Flats

A district consumer forum here has directed a private company to pay over Rs 20 lakh to a couple to whom it had sold a flat in Maradu here, which was later demolished on the orders of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court Monday directed the Kerala government to remove the debris, including from backwaters, of four apartment complexes in Kochi's Maradu area that were demolished on the court's order for being built in violation of the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) norms.

The residents ofMaradu flats on Monday said that they are unlikely to leave before October 3 deadline as the "alternate places", where they were supposed to move, were not available.

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the demolition of illegal flats in Kochi's Maradu Panchayat in Kerala by September 20 for violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. The court has also asked the Chief Secretary to be present before the bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra on September 23.
