The Maharashtra Police on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly pasting a banner written with "Maafiveer" at the freedom fighter VD Savarkar Smarak in Swargate area of Maharashtra's Pune.

Police arrested a 28-year-old driver for allegedly raping a woman whohe had provided shelter for the night along with her husband in his mini-bus parked in Swargate area of Pune city, an official said on Monday.

A tunnel, believed to be around a century-old and once used for water channelling, was found during digging work of the Pune Metro on Friday, officials said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today directed the state metro rail corporation and the state road transport corporation to plan for execution of the Swargate-Integrated Multi-Modal Transport Hub in Pune.

A local court today again awarded death sentence to Santosh Mane, who had gone on a rampage while driving a State Transport bus, leaving nine people dead and 37 injured.

Observing that the accused was not heard by the trial court on the point of sentence, the Bombay High Court today set aside the death penalty imposed on Santosh Mane, a Pune bus driver, who mowed down nine persons and injured 37 in January last year.

A Pune court will deliver its verdict today in a road rampage case of 2012 where a bus driver went berserk, mowing down nine people and injuring 27 during morning rush hours. The accused, Santosh Maruti Mane, has been accused of murder.

According to police officials, "Pansare was mentally disturbed after he discovered that his stepbrother and sister had sold off ancestral property. Distressed, he threw both his sons in a canal before committing suicide."
