Seven persons including a joint director of the health department have died of swine flu in Chhattisgarh since the beginning of this year, the government informed the Legislative Assembly Friday.

Amir Khan, the famous actor and his director wife are the latest who have been afflicted with swine flu. Swine flu is a strain of flu that normally occurs among pigs but has begun spreading among humans. It is termed as swine flu because the virus that first caused the disease had originated from pigs.

Swine flu claimed its first victim in Assam with the death of a 59-year-old man at Jorhat Medical College Hospital where four others have also tested positive.

Three more persons have succumbed to swine flu in Telangana taking the total number of deaths due to the virus to 39 since January this year, the state government today said.
