Tamil Nadu Beef Fest

Months after a row broke out in Tamil Nadu over the non-inclusion of beef in a biryani fest at Ambur, a state SC/ST Commission has said avoiding the delicacy in a government event would amount to "discrimination".

The one-day special session of the Kerala Assembly to discuss the Centre's new cattle trade rules, began with a quick beef fry breakfast this morning. Kerala, along with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and a few northeastern states, where beef is staple, has witnessed hundreds of protests since the rule was introduced.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said her government will not accept the ban on sale of cattle for slaughter at animal markets. She said the ban imposed by the Narendra Modi government was "undemocratic and unconstitutional", adding the West Bengal government will raise a legal challenge against the new rule.
