Heavy rain hit south Tamil Nadu and dams were under surveillance in the Kanyakumari district, said officials on Sunday.

The Tamil Nadu government has conveyed to the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) that it is unfair to include the Mekedatu dam project in its meeting, state Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan informed the assembly on Wednesday.

AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami on Thursday warned Karnataka of protests if the State went ahead with the construction of the 'Mekedatu Dam project' and called it an attempt to transform Tamil Nadu into a desert.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday adopted a unanimous resolution condemning Karnataka government for its 'unilateral' decision to proceed with the Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river and prevailed upon the Centre to reject the proposal.

The Tamil Nadu government on Friday strongly condemned neighbouring Kerala's announcement to construct a new reservoir in the place of the existing Mullaperiyar dam and said the move was "arbitrary and amounted to contempt of Supreme Court order".

Tamil Nadu urged the Supreme Court to direct State of Kerala to cooperate, and provide all necessary assistance in a time-bound manner so that remaining strengthening and maintenance works of Mullaiperiyar Dam are implemented in letter and spirit.

With Tamil Nadu again opening shutters of Mullaperiyar dam, Kerala Chief Minister shot off a letter to his counterpart M K Stalin to direct that such steps are taken during day time and after sufficient warning.

The water level in Mullaperiyar dam touched 142 feet on Tuesday and the storage is in line with the norms set forth by the Central Water Commission, the Tamil Nadu government said.
