Tamil Nadu Polls Voter Turnout

Votes were polled in 1,53,538 Polling Stations spread across 475 Assembly Constituencies today, in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and for third phase of Assam and West Bengal. 

Elections to 38 Lok Sabha seats and bypolls for 18 Assembly segments in Tamil Nadu Thursday ended by and large peacefully and the turnout for Parliamentary polls stood at 70.90 per cent, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said.

Tamil Nadu recorded an overall voter turnout of 74.26 per cent in elections held for 232 assembly constituencies yesterday with more women voting than men.

The turn out of voters in assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry today is less than the 2011 polls, the Election Commission said. However, the percentage is likely to go up as the figures were not final.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa drove in through a special entrance into Chennai's Stella Maris College to vote on Monday morning, accompanied by her companion Sasikala.
