Sekhar Reddy, Arrested Mining Baron, Loses 30 Kilos Of Gold Bars

Mr Reddy, who owns SRS Mining and controls many sand quarries in the region of Vellore, was arrested in December. After getting bail in March, he was re-arrested and was let on bail earlier this month.

All sand quarries in Tamil Nadu would be closed down in three years and the government would undertake mining, storing and selling of sand at cheaper rates, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami has said.

Ashish Kumar, who was the District Collector of Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu till two days ago, was handed his transfer order on Tuesday evening. Earlier that day, he had conducted raids on mineral quarries owned by local mining barons in two villages in the district.

According to the police, the Inspector was attacked at an illegal sand quarry in Tirunelvelli district and he opened fire in self defence. This has now become a routine predictable theory. One person was shot dead in a police encounter in Tirunelvelli district of Tamil Nadu. According to initial reports, a police inspector, who raided an illegal sand quarry near Nanguneri, opened fire in self-defence and killed an alleged gangster. The gangster has been identified as Vanavamalai.
