Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Call Off Strike Over 30% Local Body Tax

Theatre owners in Tamil Nadu have called off their indefinite strike over a 30 per cent municipal tax on movie tickets introduced after the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was launched at midnight last Friday. Movie shows will resume this evening.

At least 1,100 cinemas across Tamil Nadu will be closed from Monday as the theatre owners have called an indefinite strike against a new municipal tax of 30 per cent in addition to the Goods and Services Tax or GST.
