Police in a restive Tibetan part of southwestern China opened fire on a group of monks and others who had gathered to mark the birthday of exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, seriously injuring at least two, a rights group said.

Two Tibetan men have set themselves on fire outside a temple in Lhasa and one has died, reports said on Monday, as a wave of self-immolations in China's Tibetan areas spread to the heavily guarded city.
