Tiger Dies Odisha

A five-year-old white male tiger died at the Nandankanan Zoological Park on Tuesday due to liver-related aliments, a senior official said.

A translocated tiger, the carcass of which was found in an Odisha sanctuary last month, died after falling into a trap laid by poachers, two central government agencies dealing with wildlife have said.

The three-year-old male Royal Bengal Tiger, Mahavir, who was translocated from Madhya Pradesh to the Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha's Angul district, died due to infection and multiple organ failure, official sources said Monday.

Three days ago, the Odisha Forest department announced that the three-year-old tiger brought all the way to the Satkosia Tiger Reserve from the Kanha national park in Madhya Pradesh, a distance of 600 kms, had died three months after completing the journey. The tiger designated as T1 was publicly known as Mahaveer.

An expert team comprising members of the NationalTiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) on Friday began a probe into a three-year-old tiger's death at Satkosia reserve in Odisha's Angul, a forest department official said.
