The accused in the murder of a woman IT employee here, arrested last week and hospitalised in Tirunelveli after attempting suicide while being nabbed, was today brought to the city and admitted to a government hospital where a magistrate remanded him in judicial custody.

A two-and-a-half-year old girl succumbed to dengue fever in Tirunelveli district on Thursday as the toll in the virus outbreak in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu rose to 40, officials said. Setting aside an order by Centre,Madras High Court today permitted the Tamil Nadu Government Siddha Medical College and Government Ayurveda Medical College in Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts respectively,to continue conducting classes and exams for current academic year.
