The Supreme Court today permitted all private colleges and universities and state governments to conduct their own entrance examination for post graduate medical courses after a notification by the Medical Association of India disallowing private colleges from conducting the exam was challenged in court.

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh on Thursday cancelled the entrance test held for admissions to post-graduate medical courses following the registration of a criminal case over a question paper leak. A fresh test would be held next month.
