Kerala Government To Pay For Sex Change In Boost For Transgender Rights

LGBT campaigners urged state governments on Monday to "learn a lesson" from Kerala after authorities in the southern state said they would cover the cost of gender reassignment surgeries. Kerala's chief minister said his government would pay Rs 2 lakh to allow people to have the procedure, the second state to do so after neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Kerala Becomes First State to Introduce Policy for Transgenders

Kerala has unveiled a transgender policy, becoming the first state in India to do so. The policy aims to give 25,000 transgender people in the state a platform to eventually be able to demand a right to equality, dignity, development and expression, the government says.
