In Meghalaya, a fresh political row has erupted that is set to widen the divide between the Congress and the Trinamool Congress - the northeastern state's two key opposition parties.

The NCP on Tuesday filed a disqualification petition before the Goa Assembly Speaker against MLA Churchill Alemao, a day after he claimed to have merged the party's legislature wing with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.

Mamata Banerjee was today unanimously elected as the leader of the Trinamool Congress legislature party at its meeting in Kolkata.
