Trinamool Sweep Civic Polls

Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress today won local body elections in four major towns that voted on Saturday, reaffirming its grip over the state nearly a year after its big victory in the state election.

Trinamool Congress Monday made a clean sweep in the civic polls to four municipal corporations in West Bengal -- Bidhannagar, Siliguri, Chandernagore and Asansol -- as per data available on the State Election Commission's website.

The BJP has swept the civic polls in Tripura -- held amid bitter feud with the Trinamool Congress --- bagging 217 of 222 seats on which elections were held on November 25. The CPM has won three seats, the Trinamool and TIPRA Motha one seat each.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has swept all seven urban local bodies for which elections were held in West Bengal on Sunday. Of a total 148 wards, the Trinamool has won a massive 140 and the BJP six. The Left's seat was won by the Forward Bloc, while the CPM and Congress drew a blank.

Mamata Banerjee's ruling Trinamool Congress is on its way to sweep civic polls in West Bengal, seen as a semi-final before assembly elections less than a year away. The party is now leading in 114 of the 144-member Kolkata Municipal Corporation Board and in 71 of the 91 municipalities in the rest of West Bengal.

After sweeping the July panchayat polls, the Trinamool Congress today won eight of the 12 West Bengal civic bodies that went to the polls last week.

Kolkata has given Mamata Banerjee a giant victory.  Her Trinamool Congress (TMC) has swept the Kolkata civic polls, winning 97 of the 141 seats. That's a gain of 55 seats for the TMC.
