Tripura By-election 2016

Tripura's ruling CPM has won both assembly seats for which by-elections were held, retaining one and wresting the other from the Congress. It defeated nearest rival the BJP in Barjala and the Trinamool in Khowai.

By-elections were held in six states and one union territory today - the polls are expected to be the first referendum since the ban on 500 and 1,000 rupee notes was announced by the BJP-led government at the centre.
