As many as 10 people have died and more than 34,000 have been displaced amid a worsening disaster situation in Tripura on Wednesday, officials have said.

Several northeastern states, including Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam, remained cut off from rest of country by rail as railway tracks were waterlogged and damaged after landslides triggered by incessant rain in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal.

Forty-two people died in floods and landslides in Assam and Meghalaya while the number of people affected went up to 30 lakh, prompting calls to the army for rescue operations.
