China has backed India's plans to set up a tsunami warning system in the disputed South China Sea, which is almost entirely claimed by Beijing.

The government is exploring the possibility of setting up a tsunami early warning system (TWS) in the South China Sea, which has been witnessing growing Chinese assertiveness. M Rajeevan, the secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences, said India already has a system in place to provide tsunami warning to south-east and south Asian nations.
