Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal - two water bodies surrounding India - are experiencing twin cyclonic storms (a rare phenomenon) and warnings have been issued. These two storms are - Cyclone Tej and Cyclone Hamoon.

Australia on Thursday declared a state of emergency and evacuated people from its Northern Territory as the region braces itself for two cyclones which are expected to make landfall in the coming weekend.

Australian officials today said all efforts were being made to help those affected by tropical Cyclone Marcia which smashed through Queensland state leaving 1,500 homes damaged and thousands without electricity.

Australia was on Saturday assessing the damage from two severe cyclones that left a trail of destruction, wrecking hundreds of homes and cutting electricity to thousands as authorities warned of more flooding and gusty winds.

A powerful cyclone slammed into northeast Australia today, destroying homes, upending trees, cutting power lines and causing flash floods, while a second storm severed communications to a northern island where heavy damage was expected.

Though flood situation in Odisha's five northen districts triggered by Cyclone Phailin and resultant rains slightly improved today, people of 647 villages continued to be marooned, while the death toll in the twin calamities stood at 28.
