Twitter has no clear alternative, months after Elon Musk acquired the widely used microblogging platform. From Mastodon to Bluesky, these are some of the popular contenders for a Twitter alternative, in the aftermath of sweeping changes introduced by Musk after the takeover deal.

Using financing from Twitter, Mr Dorsey started developing Bluesky as a side project in 2019. In late February, it was first rolled out to iOS users.

The app is based on four ideals: account portability; algorithmic; performance; and interoperability.

A week before Musk took control of the company on Thursday, Dorsey announced that his decentralized social app Bluesky is seeking beta testers.
