Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala was today elected as Congress Legislature Party Leader and will be the Opposition Leader in Kerala Assembly.

Local resistance groups in upland areas, where thousands are settled for generations farming small pieces of lands, have extended support to the protest.

With the failure of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's move to make over the image of the Congress-led UDF ministry through a cabinet rejig, key front partners IUML and Kerala Congress-M today voiced concern over the problems continuing in the front.

Amid reports of talks at various levels to sort out rumblings in Congress over inducting KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala into the UDF Ministry, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday remained non-committal on the matter.

Setting at rest speculation of an impending cabinet reshuffle of the UDF ministry which entered its third year in office, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday made it clear such an exercise was not in the agenda.

Though it came to power on a wafer thin majority, the Congress-led UDF ministry headed by Oommen Chandy appears to be on a surer footing when it enters the second year as it has weathered many a political storm and strengthened investment prospects of the state.
