Udupi MLA Raghuapti Bhat, who was 'deeply hurt' by the denial of ticket to him by the BJP in the coming Karnataka assembly elections, on Thursday came out in support of the official nominee for the seat, Yashpal Suvarna.

Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, who has been denied a ticket by the BJP to contest in the Assembly elections, on Wednesday said he was deeply pained by the treatment meted out to him by the party.

Upset over being denied a ministerial berth, ruling BJP MLA Halady Srinivasa Shetty today announced his decision to resign from the Assembly. A three-time MLA and a popular leader of Udupi District, Shetty told reporters here that "heeding" to the calls by his followers and voters of his Kundapur constituency he had decided to resign as MLA.

Sadananda Gowda, 58, is an MP from Udupi Chikmagalur. He has been BJP state president and a non-controversial one - a considerable feat in a unit that has several power centres. Gowda has also been an MLA and deputy leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly. The Vokkaliga leader has a law degree and was a sportsman in college.
